Kingdom Key International Edition is now available. This is the final, complete and expanded version of the game, in English.

Kingdom Key is an adventure game. It’s about living in a world, getting around, doing stuff and seeing what comes out of it. There is a GM, of the strong, brutal and scheming sort. It works best as a campaign of about five to ten sessions.

The game is available here to the registered members of Skype Gaming Center.

Bucket of Dice v1.4 is now available.

Bucket of Dice is a generic toolbox for playing indie games online.

This build was created using Vassal Engine v3.1.10 and might not work correctly with older versions. Apart from fixing some minor problems, it adds lots of new stuff.

Current features of the module include:

• Dice, dice, dice. d4s, d6s, d8s, d10s and d12s in ten colors. d20s in three colors. Fudge die, coin, d6 with pips (for IAWA), poker die, mood die and clock die (for Legends of Alyria). Also, it’s now possible to generate custom rolls in the reports panel (including sorted pools).

• Cards. Six decks of cards with different back colors, so even With Great Power can be played using the module. Also, all other components can be shuffled like cards, so it’s easy to emulate drawing words from a hat or beads from a bag for games that use such mechanics.

• Tokens. The base module includes only a few basic tokens, but there’s an extension template for creating custom, game-specific image packs in a relatively easy way.

• Notes. A few colors of those. Each note has a notepad window attached – it’s very basic, but works well enough for simple character sheets etc.

• Arrows. Simple arrows and lines for building relationship maps.

• Maps. A number of square and hex grids. No map tiles included in the base module, but it’s easy to add them to image packs. They lock to the table, and even in games that don’t employ maps they can be used for character sheets, cheatsheets etc.

• Line of sight thread. It’s also good for pointing at stuff so that everyone could see what you are talking about.

• Wallpapers. Extension template allows for custom main table wallpapers.

The components can be manipulated in all sorts of ways, pretty much like on a physical table (moved around, rotated, hidden etc.). Many can be labeled and have notepad windows attached.

The base module might be somewhat ugly, but most of the time it only takes adding some pictures to the extension template to customize Bucket of Dice for the purposes of a specific game. Check out these setups for some examples. I don’t think we tapped all possibilities in our games so far, though.

In this version, I removed the redundant help file. I guess the best way to learn the module is to just look around, clicking everything and experimenting. Right click on a component to see its options. Play with resizing panels and windows a bit (Vassal Engine opens notepad windows confusingly small).

Bucket of Dice v1.4 has most of the features I needed for my own purposes, so chances are v1.5 won’t get released very soon – and once it does, it should be Final, big F. There are still some things that I could add, but I guess it’s going to introduce functionality and presentation improvements mainly.
